Early voting works similarly to absentee voting. However, voters cast their ballot in person at
an early voting center – just like on election day. Any Michigan registered voter can now cast a
ballot in person up to 60 days before election day. The early voting period starts the second
Saturday before election day and ends the Sunday before.
Checklist:
☑ Be registered to vote!
☑ Look up your early voting location within 60 days of the election!
☑ Visit your early voting location with photo identification and vote!

Reminder: The first day of required in person early-voting July 27. The last day of in person early-voting is August 4th.
All registered Michigan voters can vote from home by absentee ballot starting 40 days before an
election. You can request an absentee ballot at any time, but we recommend applying at least 30
days before the election to allow ample mailing time. To return your ballot via mail, send the
ballot back at least two weeks before Election Day! (Ballot envelopes now come with pre-paid
postage, so no need to add a stamp.)
Checklist:
☑ At least 30 days before Election Day, request an absentee ballot online , by mail , or in person at your city or township clerk’s office.
☑ Make sure to mark the box on your application to join the permanent mail ballot list if you wish to receive a ballot automatically before every election without having to submit an application each time!
☑ Fill out your absentee ballot. Don’t forget to sign and date the return envelope!
☑ Return your absentee ballot by mail, to a ballot dropbox provided by your city or township clerk or in person to your local clerk’s office. For most voters, your absentee ballot must be received by 8 p.m. on Election Day. However, the ballots of voters serving in the military or living overseas must be postmarked by Election Day and received within six days of the election to be counted.
☑ If returning your ballot by mail, please send it at least two weeks before Election Day.
You can also bring your absentee ballot to your early voting site or (if you live anywhere but Detroit) your polling place on Election Day, check in with the poll workers, and insert your ballot directly into the tabulator.
Reminder: The last day to register to vote by mail is Monday, July 22.
